The Cyber Security arena in Iraq will see exceptional growth over the next few years, just one area that provides investors and businesses with opportunities.

Recently The Iraqi Military Technical battalion have been stepping up preparations to support the security framework in Western Iraq, addressing emerging challenges through modern strategies.

Tasks have included the deployment of advanced communication systems to ensure protection of vital national infrastructure with regards to increasingly sophisticated threats, many of which exploit technology and cyberspace.

Iraq’s accelerating digital transformation, driven by the rise of online businesses and financial services, has exposed the nation to a surge in cybercrime.

The Iraqi Military Technical Battalion is strengthening its operations, particularly in Western Iraq, by deploying advanced communication systems to protect critical infrastructure from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

Between 2021 and 2023, Iraq ranked eighth globally for cybercrime among 193 countries, according to the Global Organised Crime Index.

Cybercriminal activities such as internet fraud, identity theft, cyber-stalking, and cyberterrorism have proliferated, reflecting the vulnerabilities accompanying the country’s expanding digital footprint and move towards online banking and government administration.

The Iraqi Military Technical battalion monitors battle space, but Iraq is adopting advanced technologies countrywide to safeguard all sensitive data and infrastructure.

Government initiatives include national cybersecurity programmes, awareness campaigns, and investments in protective infrastructure.

Collaborations with global technology firms are playing a key role in this transformation and the demand for cybersecurity solutions in Iraq is set to grow substantially, especially in the finance, and telecommunications sectors.

Iraq is laying the foundation for a more secure and resilient digital ecosystem, as above, this will lead to far more opportunities for investment and collaboration than conventional physical security services where margins are low and the market harder to enter.

We’d highly recommend conventional security companies look to this area and consult with cybersecurity professional to navigate the new threats, after all, you can have 100 static guards protecting a perimeter, but a cyber attack can leave you dead in the water in seconds, if you are not mitigating all threats you cease to be useful.
